Wine Tasting in the
Restaurant-Bistro Le Bouchon



The French Wine Club is offering its wine aficionados a chance every second month or so to sample some of its wonderful French wines.

The tastings usually take place on a Saturday afternoon, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM, at the Restaurant-Bistro “Le Bouchon” (“The Cork”), located in Escondido, CA (see picture). For a map, click here.

Space is limited, therefore it is imperative that you reserve in advance. Please be sure to call for reservations at 760-489-8666, or send us an e-mail at michel@frenchwineclub.com.

At our last tasting, the wines sampled were:

1 - Pinot Gris 2003 (Vin du Bugey)
The Bugey region is Located East of the city of Lyon on the way to Switzerland. This Pinot Gris has flavors of honey, yellow fruits (peaches), a good acidity and minerals, and is slightly flinty.

2 - Muscat Las Cabe
Wine of the Côtes Catalanes, part of the Languedoc region close to the city of Perpignan. It's a rare, interesting dry Muscat that is also fruity and flavorful.

3 - Domaine de Courbissac 2003
Minervois appellation, part of the Languedoc located between the cities of Narbonne and Carcassonne. The ripening of the grapes benefits from the ideal climatic conditions of of the Mediterranean region. Blend of 65% Carignan, 15% Syrah, 20% Grenache. Dark deep wine full of character.

4 - Côtes du Rhône 2003 (Vieilles vignes)
Vineyard located near the city of Orange. Vines planted between 1933 and 1946. Blend of 80% Grenache 15% Syrah and 5% Cinsault. Mr Parker states: "a beautiful example of how much flavor and complexity can be packed into a Côtes du Rhône.

5 - Château des Ormeaux 2002 Bordeaux (Lalande Pomerol)
Elegant wine, with a subtle richness halfway between a Medoc wine (for delicacy and mellowness) and a St Emilion (for maturity and body). 80% Merlot, 10% Malbec, 20% Cabernet Franc.

6 - La Tourelle de Croizet-Bages 1998 Bordeaux (Pauillac)
Second wine of Château Croizet-Bages, classified in 1855. 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Dark red wine with glints of garnet - red and old pink. Elegant nose, supple and soft wine.


Trays of cheese and patés with baguette are served to accompany the wine tasting.
